Oldest castle in Altenburg region, Thuringia

The castle dates back to the 12th century as a former water fortress in the former Duchy of Sachsen-Altenburg. It was first documented in 1886 as the largest knight’s estate of the duchy. Original graphic records still exist, showing the historic structure. 

The property returned to private ownership in 2007. Since then, it has been secured, partially renovated, and carefully maintained. The core structure is in excellent condition, from the cellar to the roof. 

Many original elements such as stucco, parquet floors, and doors remain intact and require only minor restoration. The oil heating system from the 1990s no longer meets current energy regulations.
