Poland, West Pomerania: In February 2024, the municipality of Gryfice will again try to sell the former New Castle of the von Bismarck family in Plathe (Płoty) in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Although the object is of great historical importance and is in good condition, the previous tenders have not yet brought a new owner. The tender period is expected to be two months.
In the immediate vicinity of the old castle in Płoty "Stary Zamek w Płotach", the new palace "Nowy Zamek w Płotach" was built at the beginning of the 17th century by the Osten family as a two-winged Renaissance moated castle and finally underwent its last major reconstruction by Paul Korff in the period from 1910 to 1912. The respected architect created a magnificent residence in neo-baroque style, where especially the imposing clock tower, which was built in the course of this transformation, catches the eye.

During the two world wars, "Nowy Zamek w Płotach" was largely spared and subsequently used as an agricultural school and later as a boarding school. Since the end of the 1990s, it has been owned by the Gryfice municipality and has recently been used for municipal purposes. The former library served as an event and meeting hall.

Of particular importance was the "Plathe Castle Library" established in the right wing, an important aristocratic library at the time consisting of over 15,000 works on the history and literature of Pomerania, which was housed inside the castle until 1945. To this day it continues to exist in scattered form in various places and institutions.

The New Palace is in a good structural condition - large parts of the original interior architecture have been preserved, among thema columned entrance hall with barrel vaulting, original stuccoed and paintedpainted ceilings, several decorated fireplaces and paneled rooms. Modernization works and investments are necessary these days. According to information from the city's real estate management, it is regularly heated to preserve the building fabric.

Please note that although the linked documents are older, they are still valid (as of March 2024).
