Kraków | Art Nouveau Villa | Designed by Józef Gałęzowski | Listed Building | Garden | Private Residence
A detached villa in central Kraków, built around 1920 to a design by Józef Gałęzowski — one of the defining architects of interwar Kraków, responsible for a number of townhouses, palaces and villas that continue to shape the city's architectural character. The property is situated in one of the most established residential districts of the city, set among historic villas and mature trees.
HISTORY
Between the wars, the villa served as the home and studio of Professor Fryderyk Pautsch — painter, Rector of the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, and a leading figure of the Młoda Polska (Young Poland) movement. His most celebrated works were created here; the house was a meeting place for Kraków's cultural elite.
CONDITION AND RESTORATION
The building has been fully restored under conservation authority supervision. The original room layout, historic joinery and decorative architectural details have been preserved throughout. The restoration was partly co-financed by the European Union and extended to the garden, perimeter fencing and exterior elements.
PLOT
The plot is unusually generous for a central Kraków location. The garden, with its mature tree cover, gives the property a near-parkland quality — combining privacy with immediate proximity to the city centre.
PERMITTED USES
The villa is suited to private residential use as well as representative or commercial purposes: gallery, foundation headquarters, restaurant, event venue. Conservation authority approvals and EU co-financing documentation are available.
LOCATION
Central Kraków, one of the city's most sought-after residential districts, surrounded by historic villa development.
