Manor house in Gościeszyn near Poznan
, Gościeszyn
Manor house southwest of Poznań, created through the remodelling of an older estate house between 1904 and 1911. Its present appearance is an example of late Historicism (Revival architecture), as found in Prussian manor houses in the former German eastern territories between Pomerania, Posen and Silesia around the turn of the century. The combination of historicist elements derived from Gothic Revival, Renaissance Revival and Romanesque forms gives the building its eclectic character.
The façade features lightly plastered masonry with rusticated stonework, giving the building a strong classical character. The continuous crenellated parapet and integrated bell tower create a fortress-like appearance, purely for representational purposes. The central projection is marked by a loggia with colonnades, a balustrade and round-arched arcades, incorporating Renaissance Revival motifs with a Florentine influence.
Original features from the period of construction survive inside, including the entrance hall with its curved wooden staircase, a library with original built-in fittings and a two-storey ballroom added to the east, with a balcony.
The manor house served as a children's home until the 1990s. In 2026, it is being offered for sale for the first time since privatisation.
