The final great era of historic architecture

From the mid-19th century onwards, Europe saw an era of remarkable stylistic diversity. Revival architecture, with its various revival styles, followed later by Art Nouveau, spread across the continent in forms shaped by regional and national traditions. Many older buildings underwent their final major alterations and extensions during this period, shaping the appearance they retain today. At the same time, opulent new buildings were constructed as expressions of the economic growth brought about by industrialisation.

19th-century properties on REALPORTICO are properties with at least one distinctive feature of Revival architecture, Eclecticism, Art Nouveau or early Modernism. The selection also includes architecture of the turn of the century in its many regional forms, whose influence extended well into the first decades of the 20th century.
