French Countryside Mansions: Château de la Loge des Prés
The French department of Seine-et-Marne is known for its rich historical heritage. Numerous castles, magnificent churches and other architectural monuments characterize the region east of Paris.
A particularly exotic representative of the French country estate is located in the municipality of Les Écrennes. For art historians, the manor house there, built around 1897 and named "Château de la Loge des Prés", is an object of study: a wild mix of natural stone, brick, concrete, stone and glass mosaic, plastic, as well as countless details and curiosities, make it difficult to understand the building in its entirety, both in terms of time and construction.
The main staircase made of dark oak wood appears almost vulgar in contrast to the staircase of service: The spiral-shaped "concrete shaft" with suction effect, which is covered from the cellar to the roof terrace and with white mosaic tiles, appears like a foreign body that was brought here from the end of the 20th century.
Entrance hall, salons, terraces, the bathrooms - many areas of the house are lavishly decorated with colorful Art Nouveau and Art Deco mosaics. It is the handwriting of the Parisian artist Louis Corbin, who acquired the property in 1913 and brought this influence directly from Paris. The capital was the center of Art Deco at that time.
In the 70s the extravagant house was renovated once again and received, among other things, modern shutters. Since the 80's it is no longer inhabited, but the manor is still managed today.
This exceptional monument is also described in the book "Le Patrimoine des Communes de la Seine-et-Marne" (Flohic Verlag, 2001).
