Renovated medieval castle with a small park and outbuildings on a fully walled property in a dominant village location, near Le Caylar, Hérault, in southern France.

Castle Description

Located in the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, 5 km from Le Caylar and 20 km from the Cirque de Navacelles, this village sits on the Larzac Plateau at the crossroads of the Hérault, Aveyron, and Gard regions. The earliest signs of settlement date back to prehistoric times, but the village itself was established in the Middle Ages. The castle once served as the summer residence of the bishops of the Diocese of Lodève, and the Hérault region is notably influenced by the presence of the Templars.

Castle Details

The castle, built in the late 12th century and remodeled in the 17th century, features a rectangular layout spread across three levels. The north facade boasts two imposing towers, while the south facade displays the family coats of arms, along with arrow slits and battlements. The approximately 470 m² of space includes several reception salons with French ceilings, a vaulted office, a kitchen, and a total of 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.

Two terraces offer beautiful panoramic views. An old, renovatable stable is also present. In front of the castle is a small courtyard. The fully enclosed property, with its ancient trees and a belvedere, provides privacy and ample green space.
