An English country house in Poland

Actually they were specialised in theatre: The architect duo Fellner & Helmer in Vienna, who built numerous theatre buildings throughout Europe between 1873 and 1919 and even held a monopoly position in the then Austria-Hungary. In addition to theatre buildings the renowned company also designed castles and manor houses. With the castle in Jabłoń you have succeeded in 1904 in creating an outstanding building with high recognition value: It is the most magnificent and the only "English country house" of this kind in the entire Lublin Voivodeship.

1884: Count August Zamoyski buys a country estate for his son Tomasz

In 1891 Tomasz Zamoyski had a new residential house built on the site in place of the original manor house, which was demolished only a few years later in favour of the present chateau. The new chateau was built in 1904-1905, following the example of country houses in England in the style of English neo-Gothic and English Renaissance. The silhouette of the building is characterised by high and decorative chimneys, typical for English country houses. At the same time, the local church was extended in the neo-gothic style and the English park was enlarged. New farm buildings and a representative entrance gate were also created. However, the most important room in the new palace became the winter garden: it was the main work area of Tomasz Zamoyski, who created his first works here and later became an important sculptor in Poland. Art historians speak - besides the Kurnatowski Palace in Gościeszyn and the Koziel Poklewski Palace in Krasny Brzeg - of one of the most beautiful neo-gothic country houses in the Republic of Poland.

After the Second World War: urban sprawl, educational institutions

With the end of the Second World War, the castle area was urbanised and partially nationalised. At first the primary school moved into the castle, and from the 1950s an agricultural school was established. In 1964 a fire broke out, which caused considerable damage. The once magnificent castle in Jabłoń was then no longer usable, decayed and stood empty for many years. Before privatisation in 1999, the first security measures were implemented.

1999: Privatisation and restructuring begun

In 1999 a private person bought the castle from the municipality. Extensive renovations began, which are still going on today: Windows, facade and roof were renewed, the architecturally valuable interiors were restored. Among them are a curved oak staircase in the stately entrance hall, wood panelling, carved portals and a marble fireplace in the castle's banqueting hall.

Castle Jabłoń for sale

At present (November 2021) the partly renovated castle with its outbuildings and a plot of land of more than 15 hectares is offered for sale. In addition, there is the possibility of acquiring further agricultural and forestry land of more than 60 hectares separately.
